    Notes

    • This is an in-house product. For troubleshooting or support queries, please reach out to us directly on Facebook or by email at support@retromodding.com
    • We recommend using this product with our premium 1W speaker
    • Please keep in mind that the GBA always puts out a low-level hissing or high-pitch noise due to the GBA's hardware. An amplifier will make this noise louder. If you’re sensitive to these kinds of noises, an amplifier is not for you
    • Please note that this product may not perform as expected when batteries are low
    • This product is intended for use in the Game Boy Advance, but it can be installed in the Game Boy Color since you can safely supply 5 V, despite what's written on the board. Follow the instructions in our GBA guide but solder the 3.3 V wire to pin 7 (top), ground to pin 4 (bottom), DT to pin 5 of the headphone jack, and SP-In to the speaker in on the PCB. Please note that we currently do not offer additional instructions or support for how to install this product in any console other than the Game Boy Advance. Please note, while we have received feedback from our customers regarding successful installation of the audio amplifier in the Game Boy Color, this installation will be performed at your own risk.

    Well worth it mod

The speaker amp was well worth the effort of soldering it on. I have no soldering experience but was able to get the amp installed. Now the speaker on the GBA is way louder. I used to play my system at full volume now I play at half or lower.

    Fairly bad customer service

The shipment was crazy late. I tried to work with their support team on resolution... unfortunately they just decided to not respond. Pretty disappointing overall. But since they have full control of review visibility through this platform Judge.me I assume this review will not be shown to the public.

    Works on my Pocket

I added the amp kit to my ips modded gameboy pocket and what a sound?! There's nothing wrong with stock audio, but if you love that vintage game sound this is the way to go. The kit is well thought out and with a little tinkering I figured out how to connect it with the GBP board. The instructions are clear enough for GBA and GBC and when I get around to it they're next.

    Audio Amplifier replacement

Haven't had the chance to install it yet, but Retro Modding has been incredible in helping me replace a wrong piece of my order. You guys are fantastic and will be the first I go to for my next project.

    its pumps

This audio amp does exactly what you've read it does. So does the upgraded speaker available (make sure to add on a 3d printed color ring for xtra swag). So does the audio cleaner flex PCB available. I've got all 3 in my Game Boy Advance right now and I am happily grooving out at half volume.

    Awesome little amp

This is a great amp for the GBA, the difficulty was a little hard especially trying to solder the wire to the headphone jack. I just went around the board and soldered it to the leg instead. The only downfall I see from this is that when I put a game to sleep it has a buzzing noise. But overall it's nice and loud compared to the oem speaker

    Amplifier mod

I love retro-modding. This site is awesome. You guys are amazing. I've never had an issue with anything you send me.

This is not the products fault, and I don't blame retromodding for this, but this mod is way harder to install than it is made out to be. The capacitors that are utilized for powering the amplifier are extremely, and I mean extremely, small. It is very difficult to bridge them. If you don't know how to use an iron, you are going to butcher this. I consider myself to be quite skilled in soldering, and I still managed to destroy the GBA motherboard trying to install this mod because of those capacitors. They are easy to knock off the board, and harder to replace. If you are thinking about doing this mod - be confident that you can bridge something as small as a speck of dust before attempting.

All of that said, 5 stars. After getting another board and exercising extreme caution, it does work amazingly. I just can't overstate how careful you need to be once you get to that step.

With the Speaker this is a descend and very noticable improvement from the standard Nintendo Stuff, good Mod for People who are just getting into Modding Retro Consoles if you buy the Install Kit.
