Shell for Game Boy

I bought the pink case for my project to recreate the ultra-rare "Game Boy Pink with Heart logo" and was amazed by the quality of its finish and feel.
Shipping and duties to Spain were expensive, but it's a hard-to-find case and very attractive.
I will definitely buy from Retro Modding again!

One of the screws that came with the shell snapped under very little pressure basically ruining the whole shell because I can't remove it from the screw hole.

I bought the translucent black case for my custom Gameboy build and could not be happier. It doesn’t feel coarse to the touch and the buttons holes are of a higher quality than other manufacturers. No sticking or wobble from bad clearance. Due to the thickness of the case it’s not as a translucent as I would like, but that thickness gives it the rigidity it needs to be durable. I am a little curious to know if too much dye was used in the manufacturing process. A scale should be used to show it’s average opacity on the store page so other buyers could have a reference

Received the DMG shell super fast well package and beautiful. No complaints on my behalf.

The quality of the shell is super! It feels and looks good and together with buttons and pads I've made a cool Gameboy Zero with it.

The quality of this case is fantastic. This is my first time adding an after market case to game boy but i am glad this was the choice i made. Feels very high quality just like the original case.

What retromodding calls “Famicon Green” is almost identical to Play It Loud Green, an original Gameboy color. I searched far and wide for this color and couldn’t find it until recently. I had already purchased a used PIL Green Gameboy to use as a donor but luckily found this one instead, and now I don’t have to cut up the old Gameboy- I can restore it!

Anyway, comparing the two side by side, it’s almost exactly the same color. The original is slightly darker but I attribute that to ~24 years of gathering grime and dust. In truth, they’re the same color.

The quality is great too. I can’t wait to finish my GBZ build!

I've ordered 3 of these over the years and they all leave me with the same feeling. The lack of Nintendo branding sucks (I know it's a TM issue) that can be resolved via stickers but what sucks more are the molding issues. Weak screw posts where they connect to the main shell body often leads to cracking regardless of screw type used. This is especially true on clear variants. Molding issues near the speaker grills. Clear black is so opaque it may as well not even be clear... honestly, retro six has the best shell mold out there but their color choice is lacking which is how I ended up here. So yeah, ymmv

Now I can play with out needing a light lol. Awesome to play my retro games again

Shell for Game Boy

Great shell, it doesn’t have “Game Boy” printed on it, but I didn’t care about that. Seems to be good quality and has held up so far to moderate use. If modding with a new screen there are a couple bits you’ll need to cut away, but that’s easy! Very pleased with this purchase.

I nought the clear teal version and it looks outstanding! No blemishes, marks, or stray bits. Snaps together great and fits perfect!

I bought this in order to give an old game boy a coworker gave me a make over with a new shell and an IPS display. Was easy to trim for the new screen. I wish it was more of an atomic purple like the gameboy color... but it will do.

One note to other people doing a screen swap... you will need to cut the plastic piece where the contrast wheel is. I didnt even think of that while putting it together and had to take it apart to cut it off.

I understand the Nintendo logo can’t be printed for legal reasons, and that’s how you know this company has integrity by doing things by the book. The quality and color selection more than make up for it! I recommend Retro Modding to all my friends and family that ask me where I got the parts for gameboys I repair and put together.

The case is really well done fits together well and is easy to trim. For the small amount I paid its great!

RM's DMG shells are the best on the market. They are always high quality and their wide range of colors available mean the possibilities are endless. My go-to for DMG shells.
